It’s a conflict that will be riveting if there is an actual conflict rather than the heroine’s willingness to go great – and bizarre – lengths to carry out outlandish plans because marrying such a wealthy and good-looking (and well-educated and well-behaved) man who is also hygienic is unthinkable, just as becoming his mistress is unthinkable. On his part, he wants her to be his mistress and he is willing to wait until she’s desperate enough to take him on as a protector. This story has our noble heroine not wanting to consider this dude with the mostest as a potential hubby even as she is attracted to him and the bills need to be paid. Then again, this hero also has to be the most wealthy, most virile, most good-looking dude with the mostest that the only thing that’s missing is a title. ![]() As per the author’s last few books, this one has a hero who is not of noble birth. Edward, a newly engaged man (to the lovely and eminently respectable Violet Willoughby), doesn’t want to upset the apple cart and agrees to go along with her plan. He threatens to expose her, and she threatens to expose him if he doesn’t help her to de-bunk the other mediums in the city, leaving her the only one standing. He’s on to her tricks and spots almost all of them. ![]() The first séance Edward attends is presided over by one Lucy Collins, and unfortunately for Lucy, Edward grew up in a family of magicians. Clark, who notices the porn shop is for sale, encourages Chandler to move in - hoping it provides inspiration for Chandler's next book about the lurid murders. The bodies were found amid cult-like decorations in the height of the Satanic Panic of the 1980s. The story centers on true crime writer Gage Chandler. I also want to mention- there are so many great tropes in this book. You name it, Waiting for a Scot Like You has it. Also, their dynamic was really entertaining to read (a stuffy and honorable soldier and a free-spirited, independent widow? You know you’re in for some fun). That said, the humor and levity doesn’t get in the way of the growth of our two protagonists. They both had great development over the course of the book. There are a few not-so-subtle nods, that even I, someone who isn’t the biggest 80’s movie fan, was able to understand and enjoy. ![]() There’s also a lot of great humor in this book. This entire series is 80’s movies but in a regency setting, and I feel like it’s most evident in Waiting for a Scot Like You. If you like a sweet and honorable hero with a dominant side? You’ll love this. ![]() I know a lot of people are looking for steamy reads so you’ll be happy to hear that this book is definitely on the steamier side. I feel like each book in the Union of the Rakes series has a different level of steam, and this is the hottest. Not to say it wasn’t good, it just didn’t blow me away like the first two books did. I loved the previous books in this series, and I was really excited for Waiting for a Scot Like You, but I think my expectations might have been a little too high. ![]() 6/11/2023 0 Comments The Loop by Ben Oliver![]() And it’s not long until the inmates are left alone inside the prison.
